Is the summer really almost over? How fast time seems to go as my children have gotten older. Days, weeks and months are so full, we often forget to stop and enjoy the amazing moments along the way. This year, as I embark on a particularly busy year as your MaP president, I know that I will really have to focus on finding those golden moments, while I try to balance work, family and community commitments. I know that it can be done! Your children spend six hours a day and five days per week in school. Come be a part of the Magellan school community, share the experiences with your children, and get to know their friends (and the parents of their friends). Find those golden moments, as they pass so quickly.
Much of our volunteer work involves helping provide time for teachers to plan challenging and exciting activities for our children. Nearly all of the MaP volunteer hours we provide directly impact the educational experience your child is receiving. This year the MaP focus is on strengthening the inclusive feeling of community for each and every family at Magellan by seeking lots of new volunteer involvement within each grade. Ask your grade representative, a committee chair or a MaP Board member how you can get involved. Look for things that need to done and volunteer to do the task. We need everyone to carry our children into their future.
Two easy opportunities to volunteer in the next couple of weeks are at the August 6 Beautification Day and Meet the Teacher Day on August 15. Beautification Day will be spent cleaning, mulching and beautifying the school campus in anticipation of the start of school. Come join us from 8-1 on August 6 for camaraderie and school spirit as we work together to ready the ship for sailing. Many hands, even extra hands, make light work. At Meet the Teacher Day, there will be lots of opportunities to sign up for covering lunch and pizza duty, organizing grade-level parties, bringing supplies and filling other “whole-school” volunteer roles. Bring your calendar so you are ready to sign up for these important tasks.
Don’t forget to bring information to complete your emergency contact card, your calendar, a check (no credit or debit cards can be processed) and excited children ready to learn for the coming year.
I am proud, honored and available as your Magellan MaP president for the coming year. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, and of course, enthusiasm for all the wonderful things going on at Magellan. You can reach me a Stacey.kohn@gmail.com or 919-608-1241. WELCOME BACK!
