After School  Programs

The following programs are offered by independent teachers and payment is made directly to the sponsor.  Please see contact address for registration, cost, and more information.


Chess

The Chess Program at Magellan welcomes all students to join.  Goals are to have fun and to improve chess skills.  Players from all levels can participate.  The only requirement is that they are interested in learning how to play chess.  Mondays from 2:35-3:35.

Art

Visual Art is offered in 6 week sessions on either Tuesday or Thursday from 2:35 – 3:35.   Each session has a theme (Fall themes included self portraits, mask masking, and cartoons).  Students may sign up for one or all sessions.   Classes fill up fast!

Musical Theater

This exciting class offers students the opportunity to explore the many facets of the performing arts world.  Students will learn the fundamentals of proper vocal  technique, singing in harmony, basic dance skills, scene study, character development and set design.  Emphasis on developing self confidence and stage presence.  The class culminates with an exciting performance.  Wednesdays from 2:35-4.

Guitar

This class introduces basic guitar songs.  Instruction includes:  string note names, open chords, tuning, holding, strumming, picking, and practice tips.  Tuesdays 2:35-3:35.

Robotics Team


Magellan Robotics hosts beginner and advanced robotic teams that compete in FIRST LEGO League (http://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll). Teams Teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field in local, regional and state competitions. YMCA Afterschool Care

Care provided onsite each day until 6pm.  The program focuses on homework completion as its first priority, but also includes active play, STEM learning, and creative art.  Limited spaces available.  Register online or at AE Finley YMCA location.
