Ten Parent Tips for
Homework
•
Parents often wonder how to best help their children with homework completion. This article offers some helpful hints to
assist in this process.
Getting Organized
•Consistency, stability, and order are valuable and critical characteristics of success in most settings, but especially in school. Here are some ways that parents can help their
children establish this structure.
Test Taking Strategies
•Taking a test can be an anxiety producing experience.
Often a child seems to know the information the night
before the test, only to experienced that "blank"
feeling the next day during the test. There are
some general test-taking strategies that will help every
student. Many seem to pick up these tips by osmosis,
while others need to have them directly taught. Please
help your student to become as independent as possible
by reviewing these strategies.
Lynn Orlando (Special Programs 4th, 5th grade)
Ann Payne (Special Programs 6th and 7th grade)
Monica Hooser (Special Programs 3rd and 8th grade)
The Magellan Charter School offers the least
restrictive environment for all children identified. Research has shown evidence that students
with exceptional needs whose educational needs can be met in a regular classroom
setting benefit by remaining in that setting.
A certified special education teacher often co-teaches
in classrooms to provide an even smaller student/teacher
ratio and provide special education consultative
services when needed. These special educators assist the
classroom teacher in making necessary modifications and
adjusting the presentation of curriculum as needed so
students can be successful. Students’ individualized educational plans
are followed and updated annually. Psychological evaluations, re-evaluations,
and educational testing are conducted as required by state mandates or as
requested by parents.
Guidance Department
Melanie Biddell
(Guidance Counselor)
The Magellan Guidance Department offers services to all students and works to
facilitate their positive growth and development. A certified counselor is on
staff to conduct classroom guidance sessions, group counseling sessions, and
individual sessions. The counselor works closely with teachers, parents, and
students to ensure these needs are adequately met.
